BENTALL, R.P.
_The Illusion of Reality:
A Review and Integration of Psychological Research on Hallucinations_
"Psychological Bulletin." Jan.1990 page 82
Supression of auditory hallucinations:
reading/writing
letter repetition (rate dependent: faster=fewer hallucinations)
Stimuli (foreign language, music, etc.)
(hallucinations decrease as stimuli become more meaningful.)
Increased auditory hallucinations:
sensory restriction
white noise (moderate but NOT high levels of white noise)
Left temporal lobe alpha is supressed during auditory hallucinations.
Hallucinators show left ear deficit on auditory perception tasks.
